Registration

Registration Policy
Full payment for registration is due seven (7) calendar days before the start date of your class. You will be charged a mandatory $75.00 late registration fee if you submit your registration after the seven-day window has closed.
When you register, you will need to provide a valid email address and your date of birth so that we can create or update your DePaul CPE student record.
Confirmations
The My DePaul CPE area of the DePaul University Continuing and Professional Education website provides all confirmation details when you register online. You will also receive confirmation by email, but if you need confirmation or a receipt mailed to you, contact our office at (312) 362-6300 or cperegistration@depaul.edu.
FERPA
When you register for one of our classes, your information becomes subject to the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). DePaul CPE complies with DePaul University's FERPA policies on the release of student information. You can find a description of your rights under FERPA here: http://sr.depaul.edu/PersonalInfo/PrivacyInfo/privacydetails.asp.
If you need to waive your rights under FERPA so that your information can be released in a limited circumstance to another party, such as an employer, you'll need to complete a form authorizing DePaul CPE to release your record. You can find that form here.
International Students
We welcome you if you live abroad and are interested in taking a class with us. Unfortunately, DePaul CPE classes are not eligible for a student (F-1 or M-1) visa. To be eligible for a student visa, you must be enrolled in a course of study that grants degrees. Our programs do not qualify.

Payment

Method of Payment
Payment is due in full upon registration. You can pay by check, money order, VISA, MasterCard, American Express or Discover. We do not accept cash. Please make checks payable to DePaul University Continuing and Professional Education and reference your name or your student number.
To pay by mail:
DePaul University Continuing and Professional Education
1 East Jackson Blvd.
Chicago, IL 60604
To pay in person, between 9 am-5 pm:
DePaul University Continuing and Professional Education
14 East Jackson Blvd., Suite 1010
Chicago, IL 60604
You will be charged a $25.00 Non-Sufficient Funds (NSF) fee for all returned checks, per DePaul University policy.
Payment Deferrals
We do not have a payment plan or permit students to pay for registration in installments. However, we do accept payments from third parties on behalf of students who qualify. In particular:
In any of those cases, DePaul CPE must approve and process your request before you can participate in the class that interests you. We require specific forms to be completed at least two weeks prior to the start date. Please contact our office at (312) 362-6300 or cperegistration@depaul.edu to obtain the forms and for more information.
Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Grants
DePaul University Continuing and Professional Education is an approved provider of WIA certified programs.
If you are unemployed or otherwise meet federal low income guidelines, work in a declining industry or occupation, were subject to a mass layoff, or qualify as a displaced homemaker, you may qualify for WIA grant funding to pay for State approved programs.
To learn if you are eligible for WIA grants, contact your local agency to set up a mandatory orientation. Click here for a list of local agencies.
For WIA grant funds to apply, you must have all the paperwork, including a WIA voucher, before you register. Neither DePaul CPE nor your WIA agency will reimburse you for personal funds spent before your paperwork has been issued. If you plan to apply WIA grant funds to a class, you must wait for your voucher and approvals to arrive before you register.
Unpaid Balances
If you have an unpaid balance on your account, you will not be able to register for additional courses. You will also be unable to request or receive transcripts, information on grades or certificate documents until you have paid your balance in full. We will submit unpaid balances older than 99 days to a collections agency.

Transfers or Cancellations

Although we prefer not to, DePaul CPE reserves the right to cancel classes. If we do cancel a class for which you have paid, you will have the option of transferring to a different class or receiving a full refund.
Transfers between Classes
In order to transfer from a class for which you have registered to another class, you must send a written request to DePaul CPE via email to cperegistration@depaul.edu at least one week before the class is scheduled to start. We will transfer your registration to a different class without penalty.
Subsequently, after the seven-day window has closed, we can grant your request to transfer only if you want to move to a different location during the same term.
Cancellations
We are aware that professionals' plans can change. In order to cancel your participation in a class, you must provide us with written notification at least one week before the class is scheduled to start. Your cancellation request should be sent via email to cperegistration@depaul.edu or via US mail to DePaul University CPE, 1 E. Jackson Blvd., Chicago, IL 60604.
If we receive your notification before the seven-day window closes, we will remit to you a full refund, minus a $75 cancellation fee.
Refunds will be applied through your method of original payment. The university takes three or four weeks to process refunds via check; if you paid with a credit card, the refund will be processed and credited within fourteen (14) business days.
If you request a cancellation within seven days of the class start date or after it has started, we will not be able to refund any of the tuition.

Class Attendance

Obligations
Your instructor will establish the attendance policy for the class you attend. In most cases, instructors will require you to attend a certain number of class meetings to pass the class.
Updated Locations and Room Assignments
We encourage you check My Current Enrollments within the My DePaul CPE section of the website two (2) business days before your class is scheduled to start for location and room assignments. This is where you will find the most up to date information.
Please note: location and room assignments can change frequently.
Online Classes
Your computer must meet specific technical requirements for you to take a class with us online. Please make sure you have an IBM-compatible PC or an Apple Macintosh with the following:
While your online class is in session, you are responsible for your own progress as the class moves along.
The system employed by DePaul for online courses is called Desire 2 Learn (D2L). Registering for a specific CPE class will initiate your access to D2L, though that access is not instantaneous.
Course Materials
Some classes have course materials provided in class, while others require materials to be purchased in advance. Refer to the program and/or course website to determine if you will need to purchase materials in advance of your class.
You can buy the materials at the bookstore of the DePaul campus where you are enrolled. If you registered after the seven-day registration window closes, you may not receive the course materials until after the first day of class.
Emergency Campus Closings
DePaul strives to keep buildings and campuses open and operating on a normal class and business schedule. On rare occasions, severe weather may prompt a decision to cancel classes, or an emergency such as a loss of power or fire may cause a building or campus to close temporarily.
If you are unsure about whether your class will meet, please consult the resources listed on the DePaul Website at http://publicsafety.depaul.edu/_download/EmergencyInformationResources.html.
Cancelled Classes
DePaul CPE's program managers are responsible for rescheduling cancelled classes. When there is a cancellation, the program manager of your class may send you an email message with a decision regarding if and when missed classes will be rescheduled, or the instructor will let you know verbally in class.

Grades and Records

Grades/Transcripts
Grade reports are not automatically sent upon completion of your class, nor should you consider grades you receive through email as "official" grades. You can obtain an official record of your grade or request a CEU transcript through the My DePaul CPE area located on our website. CEU transcripts are records of participation, including your grade and the number of Continuing Education Units (CEUs) you were awarded. You can also contact our office via email at cperegistration@depaul.edu or phone at (312) 362-6300 to request that a grade report or CEU transcript be sent to you through US mail.
You must pay any outstanding balances on your account in order for us to send you a transcript.
Certificates
Typically, we produce and mail DePaul University certificates within three weeks of the end of class. If you need a replacement certificate, you must submit a written request via email to cperegistration@depaul.edu or via US mail to DePaul CPE, 1 E. Jackson Blvd., Chicago, IL 60604.
Replacement documents will be sent out within three weeks of your request. The fee for a replacement certificate is $15, which can be paid with check, money order, VISA, MasterCard, American Express or Discover.
We will not award an initial certificate or honor your request for a replacement certificate if you have an outstanding financial obligation to DePaul CPE.
Degree Credit
DePaul's School for New Learning (SNL) has approved several DePaul CPE programs for Expedited Independent Learning Pursuit (ILP) submission. Contact your SNL advisor for instructions on submitting your Expedited ILP forms. Approved programs include:
In addition, you may be able to convert the MBA Primer certificate to one elective in DePaul's Kellstadt Graduate School of Business MBA Program. If you receive a grade of "B" or better, apply to the MBA Program, and gain acceptance, you can have one required elective waived.
Incompletes
If you are not able to complete all the requirements of a class, you may be eligible for an extension and a preliminary grade of "Incomplete." A grade of incomplete will be approved at the discretion of the instructor and the program manager. If approval is granted, you will have six weeks from the last date of the class to complete your requirements.
Industry Specific Credit
If you work in a particular industry or belong to a specific professional organization, you may receive professional development credit specific to your field. Visit the program or course page on our website to see if your class carries industry specific credit.
